Youth who slapped Mamata’s nephew faces attempted murder charge

Kolkata (IANS): The youth who slapped Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee, the nephew of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, was arrested Monday on various charges including attempt to murder.

The youth, Debasish Acharya, a resident of Tamluk in East Midnapore district, is now under treatment in Tamluk Hospital in serious condition after he was brutally assaulted by Trinamool workers for attacking Banerjee during the public meeting at Chandipur of the district Sunday.

Charges under sections 307 (attempt to murder), 447 (criminal trespass), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) and 406 (punishment for criminal breach of trust) were slapped against the youth.

Police said there were plans to present him in court Tuesday if his condition improved substantially.

(VOICE adds: This is typical of the corrupt Indian Police that is under the politicians. The charge of attempted murder is ridiculous. Also, none of those who attacked the youth have been charged with assault. In fact, they should be charged with attempted murder.)
