Parts of Whistler-Blackcomb are set to open this weekend, two weeks earlier than predicted.

Staff at the ski and snowboard destination says that cool temperatures, intensive snowmaking and help from natural snowfall are to thank for the unexpected opening.

Five lifts will run on Whistler Mountain, and visitors can get to the mountain from the Whistler Village Gondola or the Creekside Gondola.

Blackcomb Mountain will remain closed until Nov. 28, the original projected opening day for the entire resort.
