West Vancouver assault leaves youth with life-altering injuries

WEST Vancouver Police Department investigators are appealing to the public for information about a Saturday evening assault with a weapon at Ambleside Park that left a 17-year-old male youth in hospital with serious injuries.

The assault happened at approximately 6:15 p.m. in Ambleside Park, east of the concession stand.

BC Ambulance Service, West Vancouver Fire and Rescue, and WVPD officers quickly attended the area.

Patrol officers identified four suspects, and took them into custody near the scene.

Detectives from the WVPD Major Investigations Team have taken conduct of the investigation and are hoping the public can help.

“We need anyone who witnessed this, anyone with video evidence, or anyone with any information at all, to contact us,” said Constable Kevin Goodmurphy on Sunday. “This young man has suffered life-changing injuries. We want to be sure we gather all available evidence so we have a clear picture of everything that happened.”

He added: “Mother’s Day is supposed to be about celebrating loved ones. No mother should have to spend it in the hospital while her child recovers from being injured in a senseless crime.”

The youth was transported from the scene by BC Ambulance Service to a local hospital, where he spent the night after being treated for serious injuries.

All four suspects have since been released from custody pending further investigation.

“If you saw what took place, if you were there, if your dash cam captured footage either before or after 6:15 pm on Saturday night, or if you know anything about this incident, please get in touch with us,” said Goodmurphy.

Anyone with information is asked to contact investigators at 604-925-7300 and reference police file number 20-4833. If they wish to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or visit www.solvecrime.ca
