The B.C. NDP has lost its candidate in Surrey-Tynehead.

Raj Hundal has stepped down effective immediately due to “personal reasons”, the party announced today (October 16).

The former Vancouver park board chair submitted his resignation to NDP provincial secretary Jan O’Brien in a letter over the weekend.

“We accept Mr. Hundal’s decision,” O’Brien said in a news release.

Hundal had won the nomination back in July 2011.

The party plans to work with its Surrey-Tynehead constituency association to prepare for a new nomination process.

More to come as it develops.
