Suspect in Surrey’s Clayton Heights attempted robbery in custody

SURREY RCMP announced on Tuesday that one man is in custody following an attempted robbery at a financial institution in the 18600-block of Fraser Highway.
On October 1, just after 3 p.m., a male suspect entered a bank in the Clayton Heights area with a knife and demanded money from a teller. Police were alerted and the suspect was arrested nearby. Nobody was harmed during the incident.
Due to the close proximity, Clayton Heights Secondary School was placed on temporary lockout until the suspect was in custody.

“Thanks to the swift actions of the bank staff and our frontline members, the suspect is now in custody without incident,” said Sgt. Mel Wong. “A nearby school was placed on temporary lockout, but we want to assure the public that there is no ongoing concern for safety.”

The investigation is ongoing at this time. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 or, if you wish to make an anonymous report, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or www.solvecrime.ca.
