THE final tally is now in for the Surrey RCMP’s annual “Pack the Police Car” food drive. More than 5,000 pounds of food and $7,000 in cash were collected for the Surrey Food Bank, Sources Food Bank, and Cloverdale Christmas Hamper Program during the two and a half week campaign which ended on December 17.

“The Surrey RCMP would like to thank the generous residents of Surrey for making our ‘Pack the PC’ event a success once again,” says Surrey RCMP Cpl. Bert Paquet. “The holidays can be financially difficult for some families and we are happy to be able to lend a helping hand.”

Surrey RCMP’s employees also contributed an additional $500 to the local charities through various fundraising initiatives bringing the grand total to over $7,500.

Surrey Detachment was involved in other holiday-themed initiatives this year to spread some goodwill and holiday cheer in Surrey. These included police officers accompanying underprivileged youth on a Christmas shopping spree, singing Christmas carols to the elderly at local seniors’ facilities, decorating Christmas trees for local charities, and collecting toys for abused children.

“Our Christmas wish this year is for every resident to give back to the community in some way to make someone else’s holidays that much brighter,” says Paquet. “Although our campaign is over, we continue to urge residents to support local food banks and charities all year long.”
