Surrey RCMP wants you!

A volunteer opportunity like no other

THERE are many amazing organizations out there that people can donate their time to. There are not many, however, that give their volunteers a unique insight into the exciting world of policing and crime prevention, says Surrey RCMP.

Have you ever wondered what it’s like being a police officer? Have you ever wanted to be part of a large team with the same goal? Have you ever wanted to make a real, meaningful impact in your community?

Surrey RCMP are seeking Community Programs volunteers to assist with crime prevention programs and attend community events across the city to promote public safety. Volunteers can participate in a range of opportunities from raising awareness about the dangers of speeding in your neighbourhood, to educating residents about auto crime, to wearing the coveted Safety Bear mascot at a Block Watch barbecue.

This year our volunteers have recovered a record number of stolen vehicles through our Stolen Auto Recovery Program, conducted thousands of vehicle checks and audits as part of the Speed Watch and Lock Auto Crime Program, and attended hundreds of community events along with local businesses, says Surrey RCMP.

“Our volunteers are a diverse mix of backgrounds, ethnicities, and ages and each of them have something different to offer,” says Susan Stickley, Surrey RCMP Community Programs Manager. “We value their passion and commitment in helping us ensure a safe and livable Surrey. Come join our team and learn about the many opportunities and programs available.”

Volunteer applications will be accepted from August 20 to September 21 through the Surrey RCMP’s website. (NOTE: Only volunteer applications submitted online will be accepted.)

Volunteer requirements include:

  • Age 19 years or older
  • Canadian Citizen (or permanent resident for a minimum of five years)
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license
  • Reliable and have integrity
  • Available to attend all training sessions
  • Available to volunteer a minimum of 16 hours per month for one year
  • Pass a suitability interview

  • Complete a six-month probationary period
