Surrey RCMP investigating report of an explosion

AT approximately 5:50 p.m., Surrey RCMP frontline officers together with Surrey Fire responded to the report of an explosion in the area of 124th Street and Iona Place.

Witnesses were able to direct investigators to a specific residence. The surrounding homes were evacuated as a precaution and specialized response teams were brought in to ensure everyone’s safety.

“The emotionally elevated subject has been successfully taken into custody without any harm to people or property,” said police.

Investigators with the Surrey RCMP’s General Investigation Unit are continuing to conduct neighbourhood inquiries looking for witnesses and possible CCTV surveillance video in relation to the explosion.
