SURREY RCMP are currently looking for committed and responsible citizens with a strong interest in law enforcement to help make a difference in Surrey by joining the Auxiliary Constable Program.
As an auxiliary constable, you could be directing traffic at a large community event, participating in a community forum on criminal justice, or assisting with an emerging crime situation. You are also a valuable resource for the community on crime prevention information and community policing programs.
Registration is now open for interested candidates to sign up for the program’s information sessions.
Two years ago Auxiliary Constable Gurvinder Ghag attended one of those information sessions when she was looking for a way to give back to the community and be a good role model for her two boys.
“I enjoy everything about the program – from ride-alongs to community events,” says Ghag. “I am so happy to be able to contribute to my community and have such a positive impact on public safety.”
In addition to English, she is also able to speak and read Punjabi, which is a valuable asset to the community and the RCMP.
“Auxiliary Constables are an essential part of our policing model and truly representative of the community we serve,” says Surrey RCMP Cpl. Bert Paquet. “Their commitment and dedication to the success of our operations is immeasurable. We often refer to them as our ultimate volunteers.”
Auxiliary constables are uniformed volunteers under the command of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. They participate in community policing activities in support of public safety and crime prevention. Auxiliary constables assist police with community-based policing and crime prevention programs in a volunteer capacity, and may also assist police officers in the field under certain circumstances.
Applicants to the Auxiliary Constable Program must meet the following requirements:
* Age 19 years or older
* Canadian Citizen (preference given to those who live or work in Surrey)
* Proficient in English language
* Minimum education high school diploma or equivalent
* Valid BC Class 5 driver’s licence
* Physically fit with a certificate of medical suitability
* Able to attain and maintain RCMP reliability status
* Able to commit to a minimum of two years after training
