Surrey man admits killing wife

A Surrey man has admitted he killed his wife two years ago.

Kamaljit Singh Dhanoa, 35, pleaded guilty to manslaughter in New Westminster Supreme Court on Monday morning (April 16) in connection with the death of his 32-year-old spouse Tejinder Kaur Dhanoa in January 2010.

Police found the woman’s body in the couple’s home in the 13000-block of English Place in Surrey, which is near 72nd Avenue and 130th Street.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team that the investigation began Tuesday when they received a report of a missing woman. “During the investigation, police learned that the missing woman had met with foul play,” Cpl. Dale Carr said.

Police discovered Tejinder’s body at the family home near 130 Street and English Place in the Newton area the next day and her husband was arrested.

At the time, police called it a domestic dispute that had turned violent.

Kamaljit was initially charged with second-degree murder, but pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter, which carries a minimum prison sentence of four years.

Monday was to be the first day of his trial. His sentencing is now scheduled for July 20.
