Sunday’s homicide victim in Surrey was Shawnn Patrick Cotter

THE Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) that took conduct of the suspicious death case on January 7 in the 17800-block of 64th Avenue in Surrey announced on Thursday that evidence to date confirms the suspicious death to be a homicide and identified the victim as Shawnn Patrick Cotter.

IHIT said it will continue to work with the Surrey RCMP to investigate what events led up to the male victim’s death.

“The male victim has been identified as 37-year-old Shawnn Patrick Cotter, ” said IHIT Cpl. Meghan Foster. “Cotter is a Surrey resident, and from the evidence gathered so far investigators believe that his death is not random.”

She added that at this time, there is no information that links this with any other acts of violence in the Lower Mainland. IHIT continues to work closely with the Surrey RCMP, the Integrated Forensic Identification Section, and the BC Coroner’s Service.
