SUMS Day Camp Adventures gets $25,000 donation from Canex Building Supplies Ltd.

 

HEADLINES Ceremony 1HEADLINES ceremony 3HEADLINES ceremony 7BRUCE Kehler, CEO of Canex Building Supplies Ltd. Of Chilliwack, last week announced a donation of $25,000 to the SUMS Day Camp Adventures at the Surrey Urban Mission Society.  These funds will allow the camp to continue this year.

Kehler credits this new relationship with SUMS to Sikandar Hayat, a director of Amazing Tutors Children’s Foundation, who introduced him to the Surrey Urban Mission Society.

Hayat and other volunteers at Amazing Tutors were present at Kehler’s announcement, with two of the young volunteers presenting him with a commemorative plaque celebrating his extensive community outreach.

The campers that this donation will be affecting were present, along with volunteers from the Mission. Surrey MPs Jinny Sims and Jasbir Sandhu as well as Surrey Councillors Mike Starchuck, Vera LeFranc and Mary Martin were in attendance.  They thanked Kehler for his generous donation.

This day camp targets children from economically disadvantaged families, and provides eight weeks of fun and educational events, with a focus on developing leadership skills.
