South Asians Kamaljit Billen and Gurdeep Singh among six charged in California for 136 lb of cocaine

KAMALJIT Billen, 36, and Gurdeep Singh, 36, of Yuba City are among six people who have been charged in California’s Sutter County Superior Court with the felony transport of cocaine and possession for sale.

At least one of them reportedly has close relatives in B.C.

According to the website appeal-democrat.com, Sacramento County sheriff’s narcotics detectives spotted two of the alleged co-conspirators transfer several bags between cars in Yuba City on December 21 (Sunday), according to a declaration seeking bail enhancement. Detectives found 62 kg of cocaine worth more than $1 million in street value in a vehicle.

Four people were arrest at a hotel and two others at a traffic stop. Many of them are from Washington state and each is being held in Sutter County Jail on $1 million bail.

The Sutter County District Attorney’s Office is seeking a sentence enhancement for each count as it alleges that the amount of cocaine exceeds 88 pounds.

The maximum sentence is 25 years in county jail.
