Somdev crashes out of French Open, outplayed by Federer

PARIS: Somdev Devvarman was mercilessly beaten by second seed Roger Federer as the Indian crashed out of the men’s singles event of the French Open on Wednesday.

Federer took out Somdev for the loss of just four games as the 17-time Grand Slam winnerhanded the Indian a crushing 6-2, 6-1, 6-1 in the second round in just one hour and 12 minutes.

The only time Somdev looked like putting up a fight against Federer was in the fourth game when he earned two break chances but squandered both.

Somdev could never play his baseline game as Federer often approached net, stood a like a wall that could not be breached easily.

In the first two games, Somdev could not earn even a single point and it was in the third game when he held at love that he got on board.

It was a one-way traffic as Somdev, who usually fights till the end, could not present any challenge to his way far superior opponent.
