Shots fired at man sitting in car in East Vancouver (update)

VANCOUVER Police said on Thursday they would like to speak with anyone who may have information about shots fired at a Vancouver man sitting in a car on Wednesday night in East Vancouver.

Shortly before 10:30 p.m. on August 2, police received several 9-1-1 calls from residents in the area of Kamloops Street near East 10th Avenue reporting the sounds of gunshots. Officers arrived and determined a man had just parked his car on Kamloops when he was shot at as he sat in the driver’s seat. No one was injured, but the victim’s car and another unoccupied vehicle were hit before the suspect fled in an awaiting vehicle.

“Although the suspect missed the victim, this is a residential neighbourhood, and a bullet has to stop somewhere,” said Constable Jason Doucette. “Luckily no one was injured. We need anyone with information about this shooting to contact us.”

Detectives from the VPD’s Organized Crime Section are working to determine why the victim was targeted and who is responsible. Anyone who may have witnessed any suspicious people or vehicles in the area, or who has information about this incident, is asked to contact investigators at 604-717-2596 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
