A man in his 20s has died following an assault that occurred early Friday morning in a Downtown East Side apartment.

At around 12:15 a.m. on Friday, the Vancouver Police Department responded to a stabbing in an apartment on Abbott Street near West Pender Street. Officers and paramedics found a man suffering from a stab wound inside a suite. He was rushed to hospital but subsequently died of his injuries on Sunday morning.

Officers arrested a 24-year-old woman at the scene. She has since been released pending further investigation.

The victim and suspect knew each other. The victim has been identified as 26-year-old, Vancouver resident, Shane John Tolmie.

This is the Vancouver’s 11th homicide of 2018.
