SFU soccer player Brandon Bassi’s family to create a legacy scholarship in his honour

THE family of SFU soccer player Brandon Bassi, 19, who passed away on May 23 as a result of injuries sustained in a single-vehicle accident in Surrey on May 18, has set up a GoFundMe to create The Brandon Bassi Legacy Scholarship which will be awarded to a student “who demonstrates leadership in and outside of the classroom.”

“Each year, one student, either male or female, will be the recipient of a $1,000 scholarship towards post-secondary education. The remaining funds will be used to make a difference in the community, a dream of Brandon’s,” according to the GoFundMe page.

It adds: “This GoFundMe page is in recognition of Brandon Bassi who was the ultimate example of an exemplary human being. … Brandon was an exceptional athlete who also demonstrated strong academic performance.”

The GoFundMe page, that was set up on June 1, had collected more than $36,000 of the $50,000 goal by the next day.
