Sampradaya Dance Creations presents Prayoga

Prayoga Marketing PosterSAMPRADAYA Dance Creations, a dance company grounded in the traditional South Asian dance form known as Bharatanatyam will be presenting a classical work this summer titled Prayoga on Sunday, August 17 at 4 p.m. at Meadowvale Theatre in Mississauga, Ontario.

The concept for Prayogais based on the concept of ‘taking forward.’ Through innovation and redefining the boundaries of Bharathanatyam,this production brings a fresh and new definition to choreography. Artistic director Lata Pada has commissioned original music from India’s acclaimed composers and musicians to set her new production on.

This production, explores the life-giving brilliance of Surya – the Sun God, the divine energy of Devi – goddess in her many powerful manifestations, Shiva – Supreme Dancing God, and a Tarana – a composition of the world by the renowned late Pandit Ravi Shankar.

Company dancers will perform a series of group choreographies that will showcase the versatility, artistry in the signature boundary breaking choreography that Sampradaya Dance Creations is known for with its intricate footwork and expressive dances movements. Accompanying the dancers on stage will be international award winning artists including lead vocalist Balasubramanya Sharma, conductor Prasanna Kumar and flutist Vivek Krishna, Toronto’s respected percussionist Gowrishankar Balachandran and talented violinist Anand Srinivasan.

“It is important for our company pay tribute to our celebrated dance traditions,” says Lata Pada. “This dynamic dance form continues to inspire each new work we present.
