Richmond RCMP say victim of Friday shooting has gang ties, sources confirm he’s Matin Pouyan

RICHMOND RCMP announced on Sunday that the victim of the shooting on Friday night (August 21) at No 2 Road and Westminster Highway near Dover Park is well-known to police and has gang ties.

Sources confirmed that the victim is Matin Pouyan, who has been aligned to the United Nations for many years.

The crime scene spanned from Dover Park to a nearby gas station. The victim, who was taken to hospital with multiple gunshot wounds, is currently in stable condition and expected to survive. However, he is not cooperating with investigators.

The crime scene was processed overnight and into Saturday, with Dover Park and the surrounding area cordoned off for the collection of any evidence.

Investigators believe that this is a targeted shooting and given the gang association of the victim, the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit of BC (CFSEU-BC), is now supporting the Richmond RCMP in their investigation.

“This shooting occurred in a highly populated residential area of Richmond” said Constable Adriana Peralta. “The individuals involved did so with zero regard for the residents in the surrounding area.  We want to stress to the public that we take their safety seriously and have engaged every available resource to investigate this crime.”

At this time, no one is in custody for the shooting and the investigation is ongoing.

The Richmond RCMP is asking anyone who may have witnessed anything suspicious in the late evening of Friday, August 21 in the area of Dover Park to contact the Richmond RCMP Major Crime Section at 604-278-1212 or CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
