Punjabi superstar Rana Ranbir turns film director with Asees

PUNJABI superstar comedian-actor Rana Ranbir was in Surrey this week to announce his latest venture “Asees” – a movie that he will be directing. He is also the scriptwriter.

The movie will be shot entirely in Punjab over 25 days in December and is expected to be released in June.

Local businessman Baldev Bath of Basant Motors (www.basantmotors.com), who is one of two financiers of the movie, was also at the press conference on Tuesday at Punjabi Banquet Hall at which Rana spoke enthusiastically of turning film director. The other financier is Lucky Sandhu.

While the casting of Asees has already been done and is being kept under wraps for now, the team is busy scoring the music for the movie.

Rana said the movie will carry a social message. He said he had been planning to wear the director’s hat for quite some time now and finally wrote a script for the movie which the common man could easily connect to. He felt that everyone would relate to the story line as it includes social causes which are faced by people on a daily basis.

Ranbir has been in the Punjabi film industry for the past 12 years. During this course of time, he has acted in around 55 films and written 10 films. He started his’Pollywood’ journey as an actor in director Manmohan Singh’s Dil Apna Punjabi and became a writer with Munde U.K. De. With Asees, he will now be taking up an altogether new role of director.
