Public safety warning issued for Indian teen

Police are asking Edmontonians to keep an eye out for an 18-year-old man who is wanted on several outstanding warrants, following an altercation involving a stolen vehicle and police cruisers Monday night.

Edmonton police are looking for Karn Sandhu, 18, who is described as:

• East Indian
• Thin build
• 54 kg (120 lbs)
• 165 cm (5’5”)
• Black hair
• Brown eyes

The investigation into Sandhu’s actions began after police received a number of complaints about a vehicle driving erratically.

Police monitored Sandhu during the week of November 12 to 16, and officers witnessed the suspect driving dangerously but couldn’t intercept the vehicle safely.

Then, on Monday at about 9 p.m. police found the vehicle Sandhu had been seen driving at a home in the area of 24 Street and 37 A Avenue.

Officers attempted to block the vehicle in the driveway with their vehicles, but its alleged Sandhu reversed – hitting one police car, before colliding with two more police vehicles and driving away.

None of the officers involved were injured in the incident.

Police are also searching for an unknown female passenger who was in the vehicle with Sandhu when he drove away – an investigator said they are trying to identify her to find out if she had been hurt in the incident.

Sandhu was last seen driving a stolen, black Audi A4, with the license plate BHW 5821.

The suspect has seven outstanding warrants, and police are warning the public not to approach him, but to report any sightings of him and the vehicle to police immediately.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Sandhu or the female passenger are asked to call the Edmonton Police Service non-emergency line at 780-423-4567, or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
