Prime Minister Trudeau creates new position of RCMP Chief Administrative Officer

Kevin Stringer

KEVIN Stringer, currently Associate Deputy Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, will be the Chief Administrative Officer of the RCMP effective September 16, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced on August 30.

The Chief Administrative Officer is a new position in the RCMP. In this role, Stringer will report to RCMP Commissioner Brenda Lucki, and play a lead role in the administrative management of the organization.

Lucki in a statement said: “I am excited to share the Prime Minister’s announcement that Kevin Stringer has been appointed as Chief Administrative Officer for the RCMP. This important newly created position will support the RCMP and advance our modernization mandate by providing executive leadership to the overall administration of the organization.

“Mr. Stringer brings a wealth of experience in major government priorities, including Indigenous affairs, and has held senior roles in operational departments with regulatory and enforcement mandates.

“As Commissioner, I will continue to lead the operations of the RCMP. The Chief Administrative Officer, reporting to me, will provide expert advice on internal services in support of our world-class policing services. This will help us strengthen management accountability at all levels while aligning our structure to work more seamlessly with the rest of government. Combined with our newly formed Management Advisory Board, we are taking important steps in our modernization journey – adding valuable expertise, insight and perspectives to our senior team.

“I am confident that this new role and structure will help the RCMP become a more modern, effective national police service that continues to have the trust and confidence of the communities we serve.”

  1. Oh good.
Another bureaucrat to help an already weak commissioner on how to run a police force.
Soon the royal red will be one step up from social workers with a gun.

  2. To become more modern reinstatement of the terms of the Pay Council to keep RCMP members in the top 3 paid in the country would be a good start. RCMP now ranked 91st in salary even behind Amherst NS Town police. With expectations by executive management so high yet pay so low a good first step would be to make them the top paid in the country.

  3. Just another political appointment…along with the Commissioner. When will Trudeau’s pandering to these people who have never worked much less “walked-the-walk”. Way to go Mr. PM…you’re a real prize.
