PHILADELPHIA UNION 4 – VANCOUVER WHITECAPS FC 0

Whitecaps FC six-match unbeaten streak comes to an end in Philadelphia

CHESTER, PA: Vancouver Whitecaps FC (6-6-5) saw their six-match unbeaten run come to an end with a 4-0 defeat against Philadelphia Union (6-7-3) at Talen Energy Stadium on Saturday

Head coach Carl Robinson started an unchanged lineup for the first time this season, trotting out the same group from a 5-2 victory over Orlando City SC on June 9.

The Union took the lead on 24 minutes when Bořek Dočkal picked up a loose ball in the box and ripped a left foot strike into the far corner.

Whitecaps FC had a great opportunity to level the match on 54 minutes when Yordy Reyna and substitute Nicolás Mezquida played a two-man fast-break down the left flank, ending with a Mezquida shot that deflected just wide of the far post.

Dočkal doubled Philadelphia’s lead on 71 minutes when he cut through the box and fired in his second goal of the match. Red cards to José Aja and Reyna led to a pair of penalty kicks for Philadelphia, finished by Ilsinho and Fafa Picault for the final score.

The ‘Caps are back at BC Place next Sunday, July 1 when they host Colorado Rapids on Canada Day. Two tickets and a special commemorative Canada/Whitecaps scarf are available for $90 at whitecapsfc.com. Fans are encouraged to wear their red and white to the match and bring their flags to show their national pride. Members of Canada’s 1986 FIFA World Cup team will be recognized at the match, while 60 new Canadian citizens will receive their citizenship earlier in the day at BC Place.
