Pedestrian dies after being struck in Vancouver crosswalk

VANCOUVER Police are investigating Vancouver’s fourth traffic fatality of 2018. In three of the four traffic fatalities this year, the victims have been pedestrians.

On Tuesday (May 8), just before 2 p.m., first responders were called to Victoria Drive and Kingsway Avenue, where an elderly man had been struck by a car while walking in a crosswalk. The 82-year-old Vancouver man was rushed to hospital with serious injuries, where he later passed away.

VPD Collision investigators believe that the pedestrian was crossing Kingsway, walking north in a marked crosswalk, when a southbound car on Victoria Drive made a left turn onto Kingsway and struck him.

The driver remained at the scene, and is cooperating with investigators.
