Pakistan army to induct 14,000 youth from Waziristan

Islamabad (IANS) Pakistan Army Chief General Raheel Sharif Monday announced that 14,000 youth will be inducted into the army from tribal region of Waziristan over the next five years.

General Raheel Monday spent the Eid-ul-Azha festival with the troops in North and South Waziristan and also visited the displaced people in Bannu, a district near Waziristan, Xinhua reported.

Years of militancy, fighting and military operations have rendered people jobless and badly affected normal life in the region.

Officials say nearly one million people have left their homes since the military launched the biggest offensive in North Waziristan June 15.

October 2014 also marked the 6th year of the military operation in South Waziristan, the birthplace of the Pakistani Taliban. Many of those displaced in South Waziristan have not yet been rehabilitated.
