HEADLINES CHARITY

THE OFBJP (Overseas Friends of Bhartiya Janta Party) unit of BC organized a fundraising dinner on November 22 to support charities that are working to reduce suffering and improve conditions of children around the globe. The event also celebrated the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize to India’s child rights activist Kailash Satyarthi.

Aditya Tawatia, Convener of OFBJP BC, said that participants were encouraged to donate to their own favorite charity working for the cause of children. Although the dinner was sponsored by the OFBJP which paid all the costs associated with the function, the attendees donated directly to the charity of their choice such as the CWEF (Canadian World Education Foundation) and UNICEF, and so every single dollar donated goes to the charities.

Participants included South Asian professionals, educators and business leaders with close to 100 people attemding. All the families enjoyed delicious Indian vegetarian food, Hindi and Punjabi songs and the biggest hit for both children and adults was the game of jeopardy with the theme of ‘Children in India, Canada and around the World.’
