Ontario will contribute $1 million for Nepal relief efforts

ONTARIO Premier Kathleen Wynne on Monday announced Ontario will contribute $1 million for relief efforts to meet the urgent needs of people affected by the earthquake in Nepal.

“Like so many people around the world, I am watching the catastrophic impact of the earthquake in Nepal with deep sorrow. To those who have lost loved ones, or who are still waiting to hear from family and friends, our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. We wish a speedy recovery to those who have been injured.

As the breadth of the devastation is revealed and the death toll rises, it is clear that the people of Nepal need our help, and Ontario is committed to supporting them during this tragedy.

The Ontario government will contribute $1 million to the Red Cross to help its relief efforts in Nepal. Ontario has a long history of coming to the aid of people around the world in times of need and we will do so again.

I want to thank the many people here at home — particularly those with friends and family in Nepal — who have come together to help. I encourage everyone to contribute to the efforts of the Red Cross with a personal donation.”
