No storm surge in Delta

HIGH winds and uncertain weather that had been forecast did not result in a storm surge event in Delta’s Boundary Bay and Beach Grove.

The City of Delta said on Thursday that it activated its Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) in anticipation of strong winds that had been forecast. Combined with existing weather uncertainties, ice and debris, the weather posed a potential risk for a storm surge that could have impacted the communities of Beach Grove and Boundary Bay.

Although local communities were not impacted by this event, Delta staff took the opportunity to run through emergency processes in the new Emergency Operations Centre. This is the first time Delta’s new EOC, located at Fire Hall #4 at Boundary Bay Airport has been activated.

In addition, Delta’s snow and ice fleet have maintained all first priority routes and have now moved on to secondary priority routes. The City thanked the public for being patient during this snowfall season.

If the forecast changes, the City said it will provide further updates. Follow @CityofDeltaBC on Twitter or Facebook for the most current information.
