Nishan Randhawa only Canadian wrestler to win medal at Junior World Championships

B.C. wrestler Nishan Randhawa was the only Canadian male wrestler to win a medal at the Junior World Championships in Brazil at Salvador last week.

There were four other male wrestlers on the team. Nishan competed in the 96 kg weight category that had 19 wrestlers and won the bronze medal.

He defeated three wrestlers to bag the medal:

  1. Martin Erasmus (South Africa) – W by fall
  2. Seyed Hossini (Iran) – L 0-11
  3. Mohamed Saadaus (Tunisia) – W 10-0
  4. Rouble Singh (India) – W 6-6

 

MEANWHILE, Wrestling Canada announced the team members competing August 27-30 at the 2015 Cadet World Championships in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and they include three South Asians in the Men’s Freestyle Team:

54 kg – Navdeep Toor of B.C.
76 kg – Sarabnoor Lally of Ontario
100 kg – Jasonpreet Bains of B.C.
