SURREY-NEWTON MLA Harry Bains and Newton-North Delta MP Jinny Sims co-hosted a community Barbeque on Saturday, July 12 at Unwin Park.  This is the second year for the shared event.

This year’s BBQ was the busiest yet with hundreds joining Bains and Sims over the afternoon.  Children were entertained by clowns who did face painting and created balloon animals.  Many young people also took advantage of the water park beside the BBQ site.  Families and individuals spent time talking with their representatives.

Many volunteers joined Sims and Bains in order to help make this event a success.  After busy sessions in the BC Legislature and the House of Commons, Bains and Sims said they held this BBQ as a way to spend time with constituents in a casual environment.  Over the afternoon, both representatives had the chance to discuss politics and local community issues.

The children had fun at the water park and were delighted with the clowns and face painting.”

Sims added: “I feel so lucky to live in this community and have this opportunity to talk about the work I do to represent the people of Newton-North Delta.  This event gets bigger and better every year.  I am so grateful for all of the friends and neighbours who came out to this event to help make it a success.”
