ALBERTA MP Deepak Obhrai received the Indo Canada Chamber of Commerce’s “2019 President’s Award of the Year” last Sunday at the ICCC’s Annual Award and Gala Night in Toronto. Obhrai was accompanied by the Leader of the Opposition, Andrew Scheer, who was chief guest at the event.

“I am very humbled and honoured to receive the 2019 ICCC President’s Award. My association with the ICCC goes back to when I was first elected as a Member of Parliament in 1997,” Obhrai said.

“Over the years, I have seen first hand the hard work of the volunteers of the ICCC, which has made it into a respected organization here in Canada and around the world. The ICCC has played a pivotal role in facilitating trade and commerce and building trade relationships between Canada and India and other countries around the world. It is my honour to have been a part of these activities.”

Obhrai, who is the longest-serving Conservative MP in Canada’s 42nd Parliament, is also the longest-serving South Asian member in Parliament.

In 2009, the Government of India awarded Obhrai the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman, the highest honour given to overseas Indians, in recognition of his tireless work to strengthen Canada-India relations.
