Massive Chemical Fire In Langley Trucking Company

LANGLEY: Fire Fighters were on scene after a series of chemical explosions sparked a fire near the Golden Ears Bridge at Ken Johnson Trucking Ltd. Tuesday afternoon.

Up to eight fire trucks are battling the fire which started throwing thick black smoke around 2:30 p.m. at 9807 196A St. on Langley’s northwest border with Surrey.

Langley RCMP spokeswoman Cpl. Holly Marks confirmed that multiple explosions started then fire that is burning some sort of chemical.

Langley RCMP have closed southbound traffic on the Golden Ears Bridge and northbound access is only available from 200th Street in Langley, according to a TransLink news release.

TransLink cautions people to use the new Port Mann Bridge as an alternative route.

The company trucks chemicals, lubricating oils, asphalt, dust palliatives and special waste bulk around Western Canada and the United States, according to its website.

It has been in business since 1991.
