Masked men rob 2 long guns from New Westminster residence

ON January 21, at approximately 9:20 a.m., the New Westminster Police Department patrol members responded to a report of a break and enter at a residence located in the area of Ewen Avenue and Wood Street.

The resident alleged that two masked men broke into her residence and located a gun safe. One suspect watched over her and would not allow her to leave, while the other suspect forced open the safe, stealing two long guns.

[A long gun has longer barrels than most other types of firearms. In small arms, a long gun is generally designed to be held by both hands and braced against the shoulder, in contrast to a handgun, which can be fired being held with a single hand, according to Wikipedia.]

The two masked men then fled in an older model, red Honda CRV. Of note, the CRV was missing the front right hub cap.

The Major Crime Unit and Forensic Investigations Unit took conduct of the file and are seeking witnesses or anyone with video surveillance from the area.

“This is a very concerning situation that happened, and we are working hard at gathering evidence to locate and arrest the suspects,” said Sgt. Jeff Scott. “This appears to be a targeted and isolated event; however, we are looking for witnesses and anyone with video surveillance. If someone was driving in the area around the time and they have dash-camera footage, we would like to hear from them.”

The two firearms were securely and properly stored at the time of the break and enter.

Anyone with information or video surveillance is asked to contact Detective Mike Holley at 604-525-5411.
