Man’s body recovered after Buntzen Lake drowning

THE RCMP Underwater Recovery Team has recovered the body of a 47-year-old Burnaby man who drowned at Buntzen Lake, police announced on Wednesday.

The man, who was a non-swimmer, was in the water with his family on Tuesday when he disappeared under the surface at about 4 p.m.

“Our Victim Services are doing all they can to help the family through this heart-breaking time,” said Coquitlam RCMP Cpl. Michael McLaughlin. “Buntzen Lake is a great place to cool off in hot weather, but it has steep drop-offs just metres from the shoreline. We encourage everyone to use their best judgement and strongly assess their swimming level whenever they enter the water.”
