ON Saturday, at approximately 7:30 p.m., the New Westminster Police Department was called to the 600-block of East Columbia Street for a report of shots fired. Police locate an adult victim who was dead from apparent gunshot wounds.

Police said they were able to locate the suspect, who was taken into custody without incident. There are no public safety concerns as a result of this incident.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) will be working in partnership with the New Westminster Police Major Crime Unit to gather evidence and determine motive. From the evidence gathered so far, this homicide does not appear to be random, police said.

Police are currently in the evidence gathering phase.
