Long-time Khalsa Credit Union CEO Dalbir Singh Sohi replaced by Interim CEO Dalbir Singh Mehta

DALBIR Singh Sohi, who had been Chief Executive Officer of Khalsa Credit Union since 2001, has been replaced by Interim CEO Dalbir Singh Mehta. Mehta took over on April 25.

The Chair of the credit union’s board Harinder Singh Sohi told The VOICE that the board “decided to let him go.” He said he couldn’t say anything more because of privacy reasons. He added: “We’re looking for a new CEO now.”

Sohi said that the credit union is doing good and would probably have yet another branch this year in Surrey.  As of March-end, the credit union had assets of $321 million and almost 13,000 members.

The credit union will also be introducing new products. Right now the credit union is working on enhancing its website to make banking online more attractive for its clients. The software is going to be changed by the end of this year.

The credit union’s first branch was opened in Vancouver on April 1, 1986, followed by a branch in Surrey on October 11, 1987, and Abbotsford on January 30, 1989. Another Surrey branch, this one in Guildford- now relocated to Newton, opened on September 27, 1993. Victoria became the fifth branch office on August 19, 1990.
