Khalsa School Old Yale Road students shine out at BC Regional Spelling Bee Championship 2019

KHALSA School Old Yale Road students shone out at the BC Regional Spelling Bee Championship 2019 that was held on April 6 and 7 at Khalsa School Old Yale Road with about 200 students from public and independent schools participating. Surrey MLA Marvin Hunt was the guest of honour.

In the Junior Category Championship, all top six positions were bagged by Khalsa School Old Yale Road students.  In 2013 also, students from this school had bagged the top six positions in the Spelling Bee Championship hosted by the Rotary Club of Surrey and won $10,000.

Livleen Kaur Sidhu, a Grade 6 student, won the BC Junior Championship 2019 and will be going to Toronto to compete in the Spelling Bee of Canada Championship on May 5.

This is the third time that Livleen has won in this championship: she was first in the Junior Category BC Championship 2018, third in the Primary BC Championship in 2015, and first in the Primary Category in 2014.

In the Primary Category, the second, third, fourth and sixth positions were also taken by Khalsa School Old Yale Road students.

Intermediate Category:

 

Praneet Singh Arora was the BC Champion in the Intermediate Category and will go to Toronto to compete in the Spelling Bee of Canada Championship. This would be the third time that he will be competing in Toronto.

Kamalpreet Kaur Baga is the principal of Khalsa School Old Yale Road.. She is also the BC Chapter President of the Spelling Bee of Canada.  She takes care of contacting schools from all over BC and plans for the event with the help of her team.
