Junior officer who joined RCMP a year ago charged in 2013 aggravated assault

A junior constable, currently posted to Langley RCMP Detachment, has been charged with assault in relation to a stabbing that occurred at a fast food restaurant in Edmonton, Alberta, in 2013, prior to joining the RCMP. Two victims received serious injuries and the
unidentified suspect fled the scene.

In January 2019, new information gathered by Edmonton Police Service caused it to engage the assistance of the BC RCMP Serious Crime Unit.

On March 12, Benjamen Kozlovich was arrested in Chilliwack on unendorsed warrants for aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. He has made his first appearance in court and has been released on bail.

The BC RCMP has launched an internal investigation and is assessing the member’s employment status. Kozlovich, who completed RCMP training in January 2018, is a probationary member.
