Integrated Homicide Investigation Team probe fatal stabbing on Richmond bus

THE Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) is requesting public assistance to further its ongoing investigation into the stabbing death of a Richmond man.

On July 23 at approximately 2 p.m., the Richmond RCMP received numerous calls of a fight between two passengers on board a Coast Mountain bus near No.3 Road and Cambie Road.

Frontline officers arrived on scene to find a 42-year-old man with serious stab wounds.  He was taken to hospital where he later died of his injuries.  A 22-year-old Richmond resident was arrested and taken into police custody.  The identities of both parties are not being released at this time.

IHIT is currently working closely with its partners from the Richmond RCMP, the Integrated Forensic Identification Services and the B.C. Coroners Service to gather evidence.

It is early in the investigation but detectives believe the incident began as a random argument between two men that escalated into a physical assault.

“Determining what initiated the dispute between the two men involved will be a key priority for our investigators,” said IHIT Sgt. Frank Jang.  “We urgently need to speak with those passengers that left the bus after the incident who have not yet spoken to police.”

Anyone with information is asked to call the IHIT information line at 1-877-551- IHIT (4448), or by email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
