THE Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) is investigating after a man died of his injuries from an altercation in Port Coquitlam.

On Sunday (November 4) at about 5:44 a.m., Coquitlam RCMP received a report of a disturbance at a residence in the 2300-block of Atkins Avenue in Port Coquitlam. Police arrived to find a man with serious injuries who was rushed to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. A second man was arrested at the home on Atkins Avenue in connection with the victim’s death.

IHIT took conduct of the investigation and has been working closely with its partners from the Coquitlam RCMP, the Integrated Forensic Identification Services and the B.C. Coroners Service to gather evidence. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death.

Investigators have determined that this was an isolated incident and that those involved knew each other. There does not appear to be any further risk to public safety.

“Detectives will be methodically going through the crime scene, collecting all the forensic evidence available,” said IHIT Cpl. Frank Jang. “IHIT will be conducting an extensive canvas of the neighbourhood for video surveillance footage and witnesses.”

Anyone with information, who have yet to come forward to police, is asked to call the IHIT information line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca
