Hindi Literary Society of Canada, British Columbia (HLSCBC)

AT the Annual General Meeting of the Hindi Literary Society of Canada, British Columbia (HLSCBC) held last Saturday at Surrey’s Laxmi Narayan Temple, a new board of the society was established to promote Hindi in B.C.:

President: Archana Hariti

Vice President: Dr. Ajay K Garg

Secretary: Shailendra Pathak

Treasurer: Anand Jain

Directors: S.P. Dwivedi, Deepa Sharma, Janardan Pandey, Pushp Lata Sharma, Suman Sharma, Harish Masand and Madhu Varshney.

A detailed plan was chalked out to conduct more Hindi-related activities and volunteering in various events to promote the visibility of the organization. The audience showed a lot of enthusiasm in enrolling membership for the society.

A poetical symposium (kavi goshthi) was organized to celebrate Holi at the temple. HLSCBC members brought alive the true spirit of Holi by reciting Holi songs and poetry synchronized with the beats of the Dholak and the Tabla, the classical instruments of Hindustani music.

Another colorful feature was the traditional sweets of Holi – jalebi and gujiya in addition to chai and samosa. The audience enjoyed the festivities and greeted each other with Holi colours.
