On January 14, 2012, Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara sponsored the first ever Youth Family Ski trip, that took children and parents on an exciting ski trip to one of BC’s best ski hills, Cypress Mountain.
With unsurpassed terrain and the largest vertical drop on the North Shore, Cypress mountain is Vancouver’s premier winter playground. There were close to 80 skiers and they ranged in age from 6 years to their 40’s and it was a fabulous day to go skiing.
The trip began in the morning as the Gurdwara bus sped up to take students to the hill. It started with lessons, an extravagant lunch which included sandwiches, hot chocolate, treats and more.
Afterwards the skiers and snowboarders skied the variety of mountains at their own levels. As one young skier stated “Everywhere I looked there was Sangat and it felt good being around people from the Gurdwara and seeing all of these familiar faces. This is a trip I know my family could never have taken me on and I really want to thank the Gurdwara for making this happen!”
A great time was had by all and it ended with skiers reciting Rehraas Sahib and Simran on the peaceful journey back on the bus.
The next activity that the Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara is sponsoring is the Heroes Hockey Challenge game on February 3rd at Rogers Arena. This event will raise money for Canadian Troops and will feature NHL Hockey Players against Canadian Military. Over 100 families will attend with buses leaving the Guru Nanak Gurdwara at 5pm on Friday February 3rd.
