Accessible design aims to level the playing field – and the playground – at Surrey’s Unwin Park
SURREY Mayor Doug McCallum, along with Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities Associate Vice President of Programs and Operations, Marco Di Buono, officially broke ground on Wednesday on the new Jumpstart Playground at Surrey’s Unwin Park. With plans for completion in late 2019, the new 12,000-square-foot playground will be Surrey’s largest, offering an imaginative and accessible space for children of all abilities to play together.
“Today’s ground-breaking is another example of Surrey taking a leadership role in advancing accessibility and inclusion,” said McCallum. “This new, inclusive playground will remove the barriers that many children face when it comes to playing alongside their peers who may have different levels of ability. When barriers are removed, the impact on our community and our children, are profound. I want to thank Jumpstart Charities for this welcome addition to Unwin Park.”

This project is a result of a partnership agreement between City of Surrey and Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities and is scheduled for completion in late 2019.
