Giani Kesar Singh’s birth centenary celebrated

The birth centenary of Giani Kesar Singh, a prominent Punjabi novelist who died in Edmonton in 2006 was celebrated in Abbotsford. Singh wrote novels on the freedom struggle of India and preserved oral traditions about the Gadar Party, a revolutionary group that believed in armed rebellion to free India from British occupation. Giani Kesar Singh himself was a participant of the struggle. He had spent final years of his life in Canada. An event was organized by Radio Awaaze Punjab host, Gurwinder Singh Dhaliwal at the heritage Gurdwara in Abbotsford which was too a center of Gadar activities. Among those who spoke on the occasion were former MP, Sukh Dhaliwal, historians, Puran Singh and Sohan Singh Pooni, besides a prominent Sikh scholar, Gurmeet Singh Tiwana.
