Fleeing man injured as a result of contact with a police service dog-IIO investigates

North Vancouver: At approximately 2pm, Thursday December 13, North Vancouver RCMP uniformed officers responded to a call of a fraud in progress at a local financial institution on Lonsdale Ave in North Vancouver. As officers arrived, an adult male suspect was seen fleeing on foot. Officers followed but eventually lost the suspect.

The RCMP Lower Mainland District Integrated Police Dog Service attended, tracked and located an adult male suspect a short distance from the financial institution. During the arrest, the male sustained injuries as a result of contact with the police service dog.

The 41 year old male was transported to a local area hospital, where he remains in serious condition.

The Independent Investigation Office (IIO) has been notified of the incident, and will be asserting jurisdiction in this matter.
