Five-hour standoff in North Vancouver ends peacefully

A five-hour standoff in North Vancouver with a barricaded male on Sunday ended peacefully. The incident unfolded at approximately 7 p.m. on April 15 in the 1500-block of Dovercourt Road. Neighbours in the residential area reported to police seeing a male enter the home which had received extensive fire damage on April 13. The home was deemed to be uninhabitable.

When police attended the residence they were met by a 44-year-old male that stated that he would not leave the home and verbally threatened to shoot the police with a weapon he had in his possession.

The Lower Mainland Combined Forces Emergency Response Team was activated and attended the location. At approximately midnight, after lengthy negotiations, the barricaded male was arrested without incident. There were no injuries as a result of the standoff.

The male is reported to be the son of the homeowners, who were not at home at the time. The incident is still under investigation.
