Fireworks mistaken for gunshots in Surrey’s Cloverdale area (updated)

SURREY RCMP say that an earlier shots fired call at a residence in the 19400-block of 71A Avenue that occurred at approximately 9:10 a.m. on Monday is now believed to be related to fireworks.

Traffic in the area is now clear. A number of individuals from within the residence were initially detained as part of this ongoing investigation.

SURREY RCMP officers are on scene at a residence in the Cloverdale area after receiving a report of shots fired at a residence in the 19400-block of 71A Avenue at approximately 9:10 a.m. on Monday.

Officers attended the residence and attempted to speak to the occupants of the home.  Two individuals are currently in custody, however, there is believed to be additional individuals inside the home.

A perimeter has been set up with residents in the surrounding neighbourhood evacuated. The Lower Mainland District Emergency Response Team (ERT) is on scene and assisting.

Traffic has been diverted away from the area and 195th Street remains closed in both directions. Police have the situation contained but ask residents to stay away from the area at this time.
