Domestic assault outside Surrey’s Royal Heights Elementary School triggers lockdown

AT about 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Surrey RCMP attended Royal Heights Elementary School at 11665 97 Avenue in response to a domestic assault incident which occurred outside the school.

Investigators at the scene were informed that a male had just assaulted a female known to him with a small knife. The male was arrested near the scene without incidents and the knife involved was also recovered.

“For obvious safety reasons, the school was in lock-down for a few minutes, until we could confirm the safety of the students and that the suspect was in custody,” said Cpl. Bert Paquet. “Students were never threatened or at risk during this targeted incident between two adults.”

The female victim suffered minor injuries as a result of this assault.

A 34-year-old Surrey male is now in custody. Charges have not been finalized, as officers continue to investigate the first stages of this case.

Any potential witness to this assault is asked to contact the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 or Crime Stoppers, if they wish to remain anonymous, at 1-800-222-8477 or www.solvecrime.ca.
