Coast Mental Health Receives Big Donation from leading BC Family

As the regions’ leading not-for-profit organization dedicated to helping people with mental illness recover and lead full lives, Coast Mental Health is honoured to have been selected as the charity recipient of a $2.1 million donation, raised through the Vancouver Board of Trade’s gala saluting British Columbia business legend Joe Segal.

Held Tuesday, June 4th Joe Segal, an Extraordinary Life, brought together over 1500 members of BC’s society and business communities, with money going to Coast Mental Health, a charity long supported by the Segal family. In total, in excess of $2.1 million will go towards furthering Coast’s many important programs, which touch and improve lives throughout the Greater Vancouver region each day of the year.

“We are incredibly grateful for the longtime generosity shown to us by the Segal family,” says Coast Mental Health Society Executive Director Darrell Burnham. “Through this donation, Coast Mental Health will be able to continue to provide the programs and services not offered by government or the health care system that promote dignity for our clients today and every day after as they recover and move forward towards a productive life.”

This generous donation will go directly towards increasing operations hours at the Coast Mental Health Resource Centre, expanding outreach as well as youth based programs.

Joe’s son Lorne Segal serves as Chair of the Courage to Come Back Awards, Coast Mental Health’s Foundation’s marquee fundraiser. As Chair of the gala celebrating his father’s life and achievements Lorne Segal was also the driving force that helped generate the resulting substantial donation to Coast.
