City of Surrey launches new service Request App

A new Surrey app to help streamline resident requests for service and information is now available for download on smartphones. The ‘Surrey Request App’ has been developed to improve customer reporting when requesting service, including waste collection, road and sidewalk repair, street light outages, and park maintenance.

“As the most rapidly growing city in the region, we have the opportunity to guide the development of Surrey through investment in innovation and technology,” said Surrey Mayor Dianne Watts on Monday. “Investing in technology that simplifies processes and improves customer service is part of our ongoing commitment in building a sustainable community and enhancing the quality of life for our residents.”

The ‘Surrey Request App’ will enhance users experience by:

*  Enabling users to attach photos of the request;

*  Automatically providing users with a GPS location map of the request;

*  Providing feedback to users on the status of requests; and

*  Reducing City response time by linking directly with internal City systems for increased efficiency and accuracy in managing requests.

“The New Surrey Request App is a great step forward in improving customer service for residents and businesses through the use of current technology,” said Councillor Bruce Hayne, Chair of the Investment and Innovation Committee. “The app has been designed for convenience and incorporates industry best practices in usability.”

The ‘Surrey Request App’ is available for use on smartphones, including iPhones and Android devices. City staff incorporated citizen feedback into the development of the Surrey Request App and will continue to work towards improving and expanding its capabilities.

The Surrey Request App is a component of the City’s ‘Smart Surrey’ Strategy which seeks to build a city that uses technology and innovation to transform life and work in significant and fundamental ways. Using new and existing technologies and information, the Strategy identifies and implements systems to inform decision-making, create efficiencies and maximize its resources.
